Sybil Bruncheon's "My Merry Memoirs"... Just lick here!...

Imagine my dismay, after saving green stamps for decades, never cashing them in on small, stupid household items, and finally having enough (literally 14 boxcars full) to buy the Chrysler Building (on page 343 of their catalogue!)... and to be told, "I'm sorry ma'am, S&H green stamps has gone out of business... but it sounds like you've got enough there to wallpaper a lovely guest bathroom!"...

Sybil Bruncheon's "Travel Notes From Around The World... Bill and Missy Bailey; 1959"...

Yes, Folks, we’ve found fun and exciting travel notes from all around the world, just for you! Bill and Missy Bailey from Coshocton, Ohio decided that they’d like to see the newest state in the USA; Hawaii! They heard about it before of course, on TV with Lucy and Ricky Ricardo visiting there, and then Connie Stevens and the nice detectives on HAWAIIAN EYE, and… um…. well… Pearl Harbor. But to fly all the way there! Why it’s almost on the other side of the Earth… what with the Earth being round and all! So they saved Bill’s salary for a whole year and booked the whole vacation… during the Summer of course when Missy’s third grade teaching job was done for the Summer!… and off they went!

They had a marvelous time! They had never seen the ocean before in person, or even salt water (well, except when Bill gargled it during his strep throat scare back in February!). And they saw hula dancing, and pigs roasting over a fire pit, and they ate clams, and lobsters, and even poi, although they hated it but ate it anyway to be polite to the native chief and his wives (or whatever they were at the big Holiday Inn Hotel in Waikiki… or Honey-Lulu).

Anyway, it was a terrific vacation, and the Baileys learned all sorts of amazing things about people from other lands, and they came back with a coconut brassiere and a grass skirt… for Bill. Missy said she didn’t want one. Oh, and they bought a nice pineapple from a man in the airport. They showed it to Carl and Muriel Johnston on the flight home… and they even let them touch it. Bill said he was surprised that TWA allowed pets on the plane!.. and without a leash! But it never bit anyone…

Sybil Bruncheon's "Thanksgivings Past"... Eating on the run in 1968...

We have here an actual photo of Mrs. Helen Fobisher, a secretarial assistant at the General Motors showroom on West 57th Street in Manhattan during Thanksgiving week. Mrs. Fobisher had been with the company for just seven years (right out of college!), and in addition to her meticulous work habits, she also exhibited an extraordinary talent for innovation and, dare we say it, INVENTION!

Seen here is Helen in her "Disco-Desk", a one-piece piece of office furniture that allowed people to sit at their desks in perfect comfort without the trouble of pulling up a chair. And concealed in the space-age polymer-structure of the desk-top was a hot-plate food-prep unit which made it possible to simply press a few buttons, and have your lunch appear right in front of you... without interrupting your work-day! Talk about modern convenience and efficiency!! No more wasted time standing in line in the cafeteria or waiting at the corner deli for a hot corned beef sandwich that would be totally cold by the time you got back to the office. The Disco-Desk offered a fairly comprehensive menu of standard American work-day lunch-fare; the sort of food and refreshments that one would expect on an average weekday, Monday through Friday, nine to five! Certainly nothing too exotic, and definitely nothing French!

And wasn’t Helen lucky? Her bosses at GM were so impressed with her Disco-Desk, they bought her designs and patent as a surprise to her right before Thanksgiving! What a way to celebrate the Holiday season, huh? Interestingly, the New Products Division decided that instead of using Helen’s Disco-Desk for the office, they would install a small motor and four swivel casters and sell the desk as a futuristic bumper car at Coney Island. It was called the George Jetson Jalopy… it was a tremendous failure.

SYBIL'S CINEMA!....The "WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?" series; HUSH... HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE (1964)...

Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (418).jpg

I've proposed some epilogues to Hollywood to be shown after the credits roll on some well-loved films. Perfect for those stories and characters you just want to go on and on and on…

HUSH...HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE (1964): Charlotte Hollis is released by the police because of Jewel Mayhew's letter of confession, and the subsequent information about the attempts on her sanity and life by Dr. Bayliss and Cousin Miriam. She takes all the money from her buy-out by the state highway authority and her own personal fortune (much larger than anyone had suspected!), and being Miriam's only living relative, her inheritance of Miriam's entire vast estate. She escapes her past and goes to Hawaii (newly granted statehood!) where she opens a beautiful little bed and breakfast called the Maison Velma on Maui. Insurance investigator and ally Harry Willis joins her, and in the sunset years of their lives, they fall in love and live happily ever after…. Harry runs a shop making grass skirts, flower leis, and amusing little coconut brassieres employing local parolees, many of whom had lost limbs in tragic love-triangles…and music-box misunderstandings.
